a lil Church . . .

Need a lil church right now . . .

I listen to a lot of Christian music during the day and there is one that has recently been speaking to me. In his song “A Lil Church,” TobyMac sings, “I don’t need a steeple, baby, I don’t need a building, but I need a lil’ church in my life.”

It’s a catchy line, but it also speaks a deeper truth: we all need a church family.

Church is not just a place to go on Sundays—it’s a group of people to walk with us, pray for us, celebrate with us, and help carry the load when life gets heavy. That’s what the church was always meant to be.

In the United Methodist tradition, we believe that faith isn’t something we live out alone. As John Wesley once said, “There is no holiness but social holiness.” We grow best in community—in friendships rooted in Christ, in the kind of love that shows up when things get hard.

We are living in a world where people are tearing each other down. There is divisiveness all around us. It’s a us verse them mentally and it can wear us down, both physically and spiritually. We all need “a lil church” right now.

A church family offers strength when we’re weak, grace when we fall, encouragement when we doubt, and a deep sense of purpose as we serve together in Christ’s name. Scripture reminds us of this in Hebrews 10:24–25: “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another…”

Whether in a sanctuary, a small group study, a youth group meeting, or a potluck dinner, we find Jesus not just in the Word, but in one another.

So, if life has been feeling a bit too much lately—or even if it’s going just fine—maybe what your soul needs is “a lil’ church.” Not just a service but a family. And if you’ve been missing “a lil church” in your life, we’re right here—ready to welcome you home.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Owen
